flyguard. all encompassing fly management

flyguard. yes, you really can be fly-free!

Our flyguard fly management program is a cooperative effort with facility staff which includes a variety of products and equipment.

Employee habits

Facility employees need to be reminded what filthy creature flies are and the threat they represent to everyone's health and well-being. An imperative element in fly prevention is each employee's diligence in: keeping doors and windows closed, and eliminating garbage, food scraps, drink cans, etc from around the building.

Structural defects

All structural deficiencies which allow flies to enter the building must be vigilantly addressed. These include the Installation and repair of all window and door screens; proper maintenance of thresholds and weather-stripping; elimination of standing water, weeds, organic debris, etc.; elimination of any open waste receptacles; positioning of dumpsters, compactors, grease receptacles, etc. away from the building; and keeping gutters cleaned.

Exterior Sanitation

Areas around doorways (particularly those having frequent usage such as eating/smoking break areas, dietary entrances and resident porches) should be regularly sanitized to ensure the removal of food and drink spills which attract flies.

Insecticide Application:

Timed-mist Dispensers will be positioned outside above and around entryways which are identified as most prone to fly invasion. These require monthly maintenance.

Granular fly-bait should be dispensed at those locations which already have a propensity for flies and which do not represent a danger to residents.

Mechanical Prevention:

Your Bio-Tech representative will work with you to determine which of the following options should be utilized and where they should be positioned. Examples of mechanical devices are:

Light Traps - These traps utilize the attraction capacity of black light bulbs and pheromone scented glue boards to catch flies that enter the building. There are many options and the selection and positioning of these traps is vital to optimize their performance.

Air Curtains - For those doors receiving heavy traffic and which are prone to sustained periods of opening.

Keep in mind that any effective fly prevention program involves ALL of these steps. The application of mechanical devices will certainly help to reduce the number of flies in the building but will not completely solve the problem.
